After
my second child was born, we decided to hire a nanny. We asked
around and found out the name of a good agency and within a
day they had scheduled interviews with five women. I asked each
candidate about previous work experience, expecting to hear
about visits to the library and afternoons in the park. Instead,
I was told about one woman’s 16 hour work-days, 8 hours
of which were spent chopping vegetables for her employer, a
well-known cookbook author and tv chef. (More) |

As a
mom, television concerns me. But unlike most moms, my worry
isn't about the issue of television and my children. Well, at
least, not most of the time. Instead, I worry about television
and all those grownups watching, who might one day find themselves
in a position to save a life, maybe even 6 lives, and choose
not to, for all the wrong reasons. (More) |
