  • I Could be a Better Mother

    See, I could be a better mother, the kind of mother I want to be. I could hang off their every word. Every word about Britney and Kevin, about Barbie and dinosaurs and who holds the world's record for the longest fingernails.

    I could be enthusiastic about everything they do. Every art project, every experiment. I would happily wipe up paint from the kitchen floor, table, chairs, walls and windows, not saying a word. I would gladly wipe that gunk off the ceiling. I wouldn't say a word about the latest game involving a dozen Barbies, two dressers spaced a room apart, and lots of string. I would never make them do chores or homework.

  • The Hardships of Being a Mom to a Special Needs Child

    Being a mom is tough. Being a single mom is even tougher. Being a single mom to a special needs child is the toughest experience some women will have in their life. Every mom to a child with special needs struggles day to day and each mom struggles in different areas of their life with their child. Most of these moms deal with the same issues but at different times in their lives.

    Newer moms struggle with the question of why did this have to happen to their child. Some moms harbor their grief for years while others move on and accept the new role that has been placed on them.

  • Scrapbooking

    I knew scrapbooking had taken over the world when I saw a small display of scrapbooking products in my local drugstore, sandwiched between the rows of Gerber baby foods and the last-minute birthday cards. Scrapbooking is the borg of the modern craft marketplace: from a hobby popular among Mormom women in Utah documenting their family genealogy to a continent-wide marketing frenzy complete with several scrapbooking magazines, television shows and dedicated scrapbooking-only stores in approximately twenty years--soapmaking should be so lucky. The growth has been phenomenal, and shows no signs of slowing down.
